A Stroll Down My Garden Path...

Ahh...it's that time of year again when Nostalgic Summer opens up it's summer headquarters.

I've introduced you to our lake home in Battle Lake, MN in a few past blogs, and thought you might like to see what I do there when I'm not scouring flea markets, antique shops, auctions and yard sales looking for treasures to turn into unique jewelry.

Our cabin is situated on a point on the west side of East Battle Lake. The point stretches approximately 45 yards out past the cabin and is about 100 feet wide. The east side of the point was always a jungle of overgrown weeds, brush and poison ivy. As children we were told "Don't go through there.... it's all poison ivy!"

Since I was little I had imagined that overgrown mess as a "secret garden." Four years ago I decided to clean up the weeds, overgrown brush, poison ivy and create the secret garden I'd always dreamed about.

I hope you enjoy this walk through my "Secret Garden."
"I perhaps owe having become a painter to flowers."  ~Claude Monet
"The lakes are something which you are unprepared for; they lie up so high, exposed to the light, and the forest is diminished to a fine fringe on their edges" ~Henry David Thoreau
“There's naught as nice as th' smell o' good clean earth, except th' smell o' fresh growin' things when th' rain falls on 'em.” ~ Frances Hodgson Burnett from "The Secret Garden"
"If you've never experienced the joy of accomplishing more than you can imagine, plant a garden."  ~Robert Brault
Here is the other side of the point from the garden path.
I hope you've enjoyed this stroll through my Secret Garden.

  1. That looks wonderful , such a great job making your Secret Garden come to life :)Looks a lovely peaceful place :)

  2. Love your garden Renee! Looks like a lovely place to spend the summer!

  3. Thank you Aneta and Sheryl. :-) I love working outside and this has been a fun, interesting project. At one time the point was called "Stony Point." Every time I dig a "small" hole for planting and pull out 2-3 VERY BIG rocks I realize it was aptly named!!

  4. How enchanting Renee!! Such a lovely place to be creative and find inspiration!
